Edited by GAËLLE MOREL, this publication brings together new and original contributions by art historians and critics interested in the question of scenographic issues in photography. The publication also covers the history of projection as an installation procedure, as well as the history of photography exhibitions from the twentieth century that have demonstrated the richness of the spatial solutions. This book is the official publication of the 11th presentation of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal, a major biennale of contemporary photography. The 2009 event, organized around guest curator GAËLLE MOREL’s theme The Spaces of the Image, includes 24 projects by international contemporary artists whose work is illustrated herein.

GAËLLE MOREL, an art historian and freelance curator, holds a doctorate in the history of contemporary art from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. She is a member of both the board of directors of the Société française de photographie and the editorial committee of Études photographiques. Recently, she edited Photojournalisme et Art contemporain. Les Derniers Tableaux (Paris: Éditions des Archives Contemporaines, 2008) and wrote, with Thierry Gervais, La Photographie (Paris: Éditions Larousse, 2008). She is currently preparing an exhibition on Berenice Abbott for the Jeu de Paume in Paris (2011).
