The Spring Exhibition 2012 – call for entries

Submission dates:
5–12 January 2012

The Spring Exhibition ('Forårsudstillingen') is one of the most important open submission exhibitions in Europe, and has been held annually in Copenhagen since 1857. It originated as an exhibition showing new works by Danish artists and now features participants from many countries. Over the years it has included early works by such renowned international figures as Alvar Aalto, Per Kirkeby, Olafur Eliasson, Kirstine Roepstorff and many others. The exhibition is organised by Charlottenborg Fonden in association with Kunsthal Charlottenborg.

Submissions
Submissions to the Spring Exhibition 2012 can be made by artists of any nationality and country of residence, aged over 18 years. Submitted artworks may fall into a wide range of genres associated with art, architecture and design—including painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, video, film, performance, design, craft, animation, sound and new media. Submissions are made digitally in the period 5–12 January 2012.

Jury
The jury of the Spring Exhibition is made up of artists and other art and design professionals from the Nordic countries and beyond. It is intended that the Spring Exhibition 2012 will include a broad range of competencies from the fields of art, architecture and design, and the jurors have been selected accordingly. In 2012 the jury will be:

Aleksandra Mir (1967, PO, SE, US), artist (chair)
Ben & Sebastian (1981, UK / 1980, DK), architects and artists
Dorothée Kirch (1974, DE, IS), curator and critic
Henrik Vibskov (1972, DK), designer and artist
Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen (1970, PH, DK), artist

Jury award
As well as choosing the exhibited art works the jury also nominates a shortlist of ten finalists for a special jury award. The award recognises overall artistic quality and present-day relevance, is granted on the opening day of the exhibition and includes a prize of 10.000 Danish Kroner.

Exhibition
The exhibition is held at Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen, one of the largest and most beautiful spaces for contemporary art in Europe, and the dates of the next exhibition are 24 February–29 April 2012. The exhibition allows a considerable number of artists to participate in a major international project and has over the years provided the first significant platform for many emerging artists, while also presenting important new pieces by more established figures.
