CALL FOR PROPOSALS: EMERGING CURATOR SERIES

Toronto Free Gallery is accepting proposals for our Emerging Curator Series. Proposals are currently being accepted for a curated exhibition by an emerging curator/s to be held during the months of June and July 2011.

The curator will have the opportunity to work within a fully supported process from development through to the exhibition. As stated in our mandate Toronto Free Gallery is meant to be a creative laboratory and we encourage proposals that push the limits of what an exhibition can be. Past exhibitions include Mark Campbell's T-Dot Pioneers, which showcased the history of hip hop culture in Toronto; and collaborative curators Sarah Todd and Maiko Tanaka's Toronto Free Library which transformed the gallery into a library to explore ideas of exchange and collaboration between the space and the surrounding neighbourhood.

Proposals for exhibitions must meet the mandate of Toronto Free Gallery which is to support work that engages with issues of social justice, cultural, urban/suburban environments, environmental issues and issues on gentrification. Toronto Free Gallery is intended to be a creative laboratory. We aim to provide artists with a space to experiment, explore new ideas, question norms and challenge both themselves and their audiences.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS SEPTEMBER 10, 2010
