Alma (Quebec) Canada

Programs:

  1. ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCES
  2. PUBLICATIONS
  3. EXHIBITIONS

1-ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCES
 Artists are invited to submit residency projects requiring digital image manipulation in contemporary art and large-format digital printing.  Artists in residence at the Centre SAGAMIE redefine digital intervention, develop new languages and explore new possibilities of artistic expression.  They confront the issues and challenges of the contemporary creation of images, thereby making an essential contribution to a recognition of digital practice as a motive force for inquiry in contemporary art and as a factor in the expansion of multidisciplinary approaches in visual arts.  Priority will be given to projects which propose innovative approaches that move beyond traditional artistic practices.

2-PUBLICATIONS
 Artists, authors and curators are invited to submit their book projects. We consider that books represent a singular and autonomous artistic and literary locus of creativity, providing opportunity for innovation, a reconfiguration of the senses, hybridization, multiple interactions and ground-breaking research.

 Our editorial program has divided the publications into three categories:
  A)- Projects of artistic creativity in which the book is an art object in itself or serves to convey a particular artistic expression;
  B)-  Monographs on the work of visual artists;
  C)- Books with a wider scope, dealing with current issues in contemporary art.

3-EXHIBITIONS
 Artists and curators are invited to submit exhibition projects. The Centre SAGAMIE will publish a colour book to accompany each exhibition. Artists will be remunerated according to the CARFAC/RAAV fee schedule. The exhibition hall is spacious (floor space: 50’x30’, 15mx9m; ceiling: 11’, 3.4m) and is located in downtown Alma. The exhibition center welcomes all forms of contemporary artistic expression, with particular emphasis on projects exploring contemporary digital art. This forum for experimental artistic expression is made available to artists in order to promote the emergence of innovative and counter-current initiatives.

*  EMERGING ARTISTS
 Please indicate clearly at the top of your proposal whether you are under or over 35 years of age. Emerging artists (35 years and under) will be evaluated within their peer group by the programming committee, as will more experienced artists, in order to facilitate the integration of the new generation of artists into the network of independent artists’ centers.

**  PRINTING OF VISUAL DOCUMENTS
 Note that you are now required to submit the entire proposal on standard size paper: curriculum vitae, artistic statement, project description, and especially the visual documents.  It is very important that you print all the images submitted in support of your proposal. Each page may include one or several images, and project information may accompany each image.  Please submit videos on DVD and, if possible, please have some images from the video printed on paper in order to allow the programming committee quicker access to your visual documents.

*** SOME ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PLACES ARE STILL AVAILABLE FOR THE PERIOD FROM JANUARY TO JUNE 2010
 Artists wishing to complete their artist-in-residence projects during this period are asked to submit their proposals as soon as possible, if possible before the deadline on January 31, 2010. These proposals will be given priority upon reception. Please indicate clearly the months you are interested in on the envelope: for example PRIORITY TREATMENT: MARCH, APRIL or MAY, 2010.
