La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse is looking for an Administrative Coordinator!

La Centrale gallery Powerhouse is an artist-run center dedicated to the presentation and development of feminist pluridisciplinary practices. We are committed to promoting practices and artists who are underrepresented in the dominant cultural institutions, and who are at different stages of their careers. Our programming fosters a dialogue with feminisms and intersectionality, as well as social justice.

The Opportunity:
The position of Administrative Coordinator is 25 hours/week, and will start on  September 5, 2017. The salary for the first year is fixed at $16.48/hour with the advantages that come with a workplace that is flexible, collaborative, creative, and non-hierarchical. Occasional evening and weekend work is required for openings, fundraising activities, and committee meetings. The position includes 4 weeks of paid vacation per year.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Maintain current funding and acquire new funding related to the mandate’s priorities;

- Coordinate La Centrale’s funding development in collaboration with the staff team, the Board of Directors, and the finance committee;

- Coordinate finance committee meetings; participate in staff meetings; prepare board of directors meetings as well as general members’ meetings;

- In collaboration with the staff team, develop partnerships and represent the Centre during meetings and special events;

- Plan and oversee La Centrale’s financial management (budget, quarterly statement, audit, cash flow) in collaboration with the bookkeeper, staff team and the Board of Directors;

- Liaise with La Centrale’s bookkeeper, accountant, and governmental agencies about the Centre’s financial responsibilities;

- Contribute to La Centrale’s long-term vision by supporting horizontal and consensus based decision making

- Support La Centrale’s commitment to amplifying marginalized voices in the cultural, artistic, and community sectors.

- As required, introduce the centre and its programming to visitors;

- Play an active role in the life of the centre;

- Recruit members, welcome new members, and manage memberships.

 

Successful candidates will possess the following:

- Strong interest in working collaboratively, financial management, and finding new funding opportunities;

- Strong understanding of the structure and day-to-day operations of artist run  centres and/or community organizations;

- Engagement with issues related to feminism and social justice;

- Ability to work with a diverse team;

- Ability to work both autonomously and with others in a highly collaborative work environment;

- Ability to be organized, prioritize tasks, and be attentive to details;

- Ability to share information with the work team and the Board of Directors;

- Sensitivity to anti-oppression analysis in daily work.

 

Essential Qualifications:
At La Centrale, we recognize the value of both paid and unpaid work.

- Experience writing grant applications and reports;

- Experience with financial management, budgeting, and fundraising;

- Understanding of contract writing, communicating with granting organizations/agencies;

- Oral and written communication skills in English and French;

- Interest and ease with networking, representation, and fundraising;

- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

Assets:

- Knowledge of artist-run centres and/or community groups in Quebec (incorporation, governance, charitable status, human resources, etc);

- Experience in community or arts organizations;

- Experience with consensus based decision making;

- Interest in cultural politics and diverse government agencies.
