The a-POST- Office Making Art in Public Spaces
Julie Laurin – September 7 and 8, Jardin Saint-Roch

Victoria Stanton – September 14 and 15, Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste square Alexandre Bérubé – September 21 and 22, Église Saint-Roch square

o kick off our 2017–2018 programming on the theme of POST-, Folie/Culture is pleased to invite artists Alexandre Bérubé, Julie Laurin, and Victoria Stanton to create art in The a-Post Office, a portable structure set up in strategic locations in Quebec’s city centre.

Invited artists will each set up shop in The a-Post Office for two days, meeting the public in a bustling public space to create and build relationships with neighbourhood residents through dialogue, “assembly line” productions, collaborative creations, and much more. Artists in residence have carte blanche to follow their inspiration.

It seems the word “post-” has truly become the darling of the conceptual world. Whatever we deem obsolete, outdated, or old-fashioned is now automatically labelled as post-. Today we find ourselves mired in the hegemony of POST-, a refuge that encourages disengagement and imprisons us in cynicism.
Folie/Culture is pleased to invite you, not into the “post-post” era, but rather into the a- POST- era. How can we rename contemporary art that tackles still-unexplored relationships? From drifting states of consciousness to concrete objects, material bodies to bodies of sound: Join us as we break free from the tyranny of the POST-!
We’re off to the a-POST-! All together now.
