Montréal (Québec)

The Regroupement des centres d’artistes autogérés du Québec
(RCAAQ) is pleased to invite you to a public talk with Cuban curator Solveig Font Martínez, who works with the Fábrica de Arte Cubano (FAC), an internationally renowned multidisciplinary cultural centre based in Havana. Solveig Font Martínez’s presentation will focus on current issues in contemporary Cuban art, highlighting some recent activities organized by the Fábrica and other alternative contemporary art spaces in Havana. The presentation will take place on Thursday, September 17 at 5:30 PM at articule, artist-run centre.

Solveig Font Martínez has been invited by the RCAAQ for a networking session in Montréal as part of the Montréal – Havana exchange, organized since 2011 by the RCAAQ in partnership with the Conseil des arts de Montréal. This exchange project consists of sending Montréal artists and curators to Cuba for a period of three to six weeks, where they participate in training activities such as workshops or internships with Cuban partnerinstitutions. In return, Cuban curators come to Montréal to engage in dialogue with the local community about our respective cultural and artistic practices. Many Montréal-based artists and curators have already benefitted from this project, namely: Frédéric Lavoie, Allison Moore, Belinda Campbell, Alexis O’Hara and Ximena Holuigue. In the spring of 2014, we had the pleasure of welcoming Jorge Fernandez, curator and director of the 12th Havana Biennial. More info
